ALOR SETAR, 5 May 2025 —The School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) at Albukhary International University (AIU), in collaboration with Chumbaka Sdn Bhd, successfully organized a two-day Train-the-Trainer (TTT) workshop on AIU campus, which was held on 27 April 2025, in preparation for the upcoming Young Innovators Challenge (YIC) 2025.
This initiative brought together 17 high school teachers from across Kedah and 26 SCI student volunteers who will serve as mentors for the participating secondary school students. The workshop aimed to equip them with essential technical skills and mentoring capabilities to effectively guide students in the challenge.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Associate Professor Dr. Basheer Riskhan, Dean of SCI, and was attended by SCI faculty members as well as representatives from the District Education Office, Mdm Nor Azura Binti Mat Isa and Mdm Elina Tan Shariff Tan.
The workshop was led by Mrs. Khoo Su Jen, an experienced trainer from Chumbaka, who introduced participants to practical applications of open-source technologies. Emphasis was placed on Internet of Things (IoT) using Arduino and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which are core components of the YIC.
Throughout the two-day program, participants engaged in ice-breaking activities, hands-on training sessions, and a project ideation challenge. Working in teams, they identified real-world issues and developed prototype solutions integrating the discussed technologies. The second day included project showcases and a comprehensive briefing on the structure and expectations of YIC 2025.
The workshop concluded with a closing address by the Dean of SCI, followed by the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the trainer and invited guests.
This initiative reaffirms SCI’s commitment to fostering innovation and empowering both students and educators to engage meaningfully in the national Young Innovators Challenge 2025.
