ALOR SETAR, 25 August 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) strengthened its tradition of community outreach through a collaborative programme with KEDA Bendang Perang, conducted under a research grant led by Prof. Dr. Salfarina Gapor. The initiative aimed to promote sustainable lifestyles in rural communities, in line with AIU’s mission of advancing social responsibility and community development.
The programme brought together more than 40 villagers at the community hall starting from 8.00 a.m., where participants engaged in a series of interactive and hands-on activities. They were introduced to practical methods of converting household waste into compost, adopting effective recycling practices, and generating additional income through black soldier fly larva cultivation. Real-life demonstrations and experiential learning enabled villagers to acquire applicable skills, while their enthusiastic response highlighted a strong interest in adopting sustainable practices.
Adding further impact, AIU students from the Bachelor of Social Development and Bachelor of Economics programmes, under the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), conducted a sharing session on the 3 Zero Projects, which presented innovative solutions for waste reduction, sustainability, and economic empowerment.
The programme was supported by AIU lecturers and co-researchers of the grant, Mr. Aiman Muqri Ahmad Shukri and Ms. Nur Jazanadia Jamaludin, who guided the students while reinforcing the university’s partnership with the community.
Through this initiative, AIU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable practices, empowering rural communities, and nurturing future leaders dedicated to social and environmental development.
