ALOR SETAR, 23 February 2026– On 16 February 2026, Albukhary International University recently conducted Mock Trial Sessions for the Business Law and Ethics course, engaging 104 students in a dynamic courtroom simulation involving 11 simulated court cases under the guidance of Mdm. Nur Arfah Abdul Sabian, Course Lecturer.
The sessions marked the culmination of a structured learning process that began in Week 6, where students were trained in legal reasoning and advocacy preparation using the IRAC method, Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion. Throughout the semester, students attended personalised consultations to refine legal arguments, strengthen case strategies, and develop well-supported submissions.
The cases addressed contemporary legal and ethical issues, including workplace disputes, business conflicts, workers’ rights, data protection, and intellectual property matters. Several scenarios incorporated socially relevant 3ZERO themes such as net carbon emissions, unemployment, and sustainability, encouraging students to integrate ethical reasoning with legal analysis.
The sessions featured four invited panel jury assessors who provided professional evaluation and feedback, namely AP Dr. Norizan Azizan in Occupational Safety and Health and workers’ rights, Mdm. Aina Syafiqah Razali in legal and administrative practice, Mdm. Nurhidayah Romli in human resource law, and Ms. Emily Anak Rogos with experience in court tribunals.
Students were assessed on their ability to identify legal issues, apply relevant provisions, and propose innovative solutions, directly fulfilling Course Learning Outcome 2. Acting as legal counsel, students strengthened their advocacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a realistic professional setting.
The Mock Trial Sessions demonstrated students’ ability to translate legal theory into practice, equipping them with confidence and competence for future roles in law, business, compliance, and ethical governance.
