AIU SEHS Brings Mathematics to Life through Hands-On Maths Lab Workshop
ALOR SETAR, 23 February 2026 – The School of Education and Human Sciences at Albukhary International University successfully organised the “Making Maths Come Alive: Hands-On Problem-Based Learning through Maths Lab Activities Workshop” at the SEHS Building, Exam Hall 1 on 10 February 2026.
The workshop gathered 104 primary school mathematics teachers from Kota Setar for an immersive professional development session focused on strengthening classroom practices. Organised in collaboration with Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Kedah, the programme promoted student-centred and experiential learning approaches that transform abstract mathematical concepts into meaningful, hands-on experiences.
The sessions were conducted by Mr. Ildefonso and facilitated by Prof. Munirah Ghazali and Dr. Amani Abdullah Mubarak. Participants engaged in structured Maths Lab activities using manipulatives and collaborative problem-solving techniques designed to foster critical thinking and deeper conceptual understanding among primary school learners.
The Dean of SEHS, Prof. Abdul Malik Abdul Karin, highlighted that the initiative reflects the School’s commitment to sustainable university–school partnerships and continuous professional development for educators. He also emphasised the availability of Master’s and PhD programmes in Education at AIU to support teachers’ academic and professional advancement. Earlier, Dr. Bakare Kayote briefed participants on postgraduate opportunities at AIU as part of the university’s commitment to lifelong learning.
The workshop received highly positive feedback, with teachers expressing enthusiasm to implement the Maths Lab approach in their classrooms. Held from 2.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., the initiative marks another significant step in SEHS’s efforts to promote educational excellence and innovation within the teaching community.
