
AIU and LZNK set initiatives for student development and asnaf empowerment

ALOR SETAR, 8 October 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU), represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Saleh bin Jaafar, hosted a working visit from Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) on 6 October 2025 at the University Library Meeting Room. The LZNK delegation was led by Dr. Mohd Faisal Mustafa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations), and Mr. Mohd Zaidi bin Azizan, Chief Executive of Collection.
The session was a follow-up to earlier discussions between both institutions, focusing on strengthening collaboration in areas that bridge education and community development. In addition to the existing student recruitment and internship opportunities, several joint initiatives were outlined, including professional certification programmes for zakat-sponsored students, process improvement projects, entrepreneurship development for asnaf, and leadership training for mid-level managers.
Also present were Prof. Dr. Hj. Mohamad Abdullah bin Hemdi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); Mr. Abdul Shakur bin Abdullah, Deputy Registrar and Director of the Centre for Corporate Planning and Communication; Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek bin Abdul Karim, Dean of the School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Basheer Riskhan, Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI); Prof. Dr. Salfarina binti Abdul Gapor, Director of the Centre for Research and Innovation Management (CRIM); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suraya Hanim binti Mokhtar, Director of the AIU Centre of Excellence for Socio-Economic Development and Innovation (ACE-SEDI); and Mr. Abu Bakar bin Ngah, Director of the Centre for Community and Industry Engagement (CCIE).
Both sides expressed their commitment to refining these initiatives into structured programmes that contribute to educational access, skills development, and socio-economic empowerment within Kedah and beyond.
