ALOR SETAR, 12 September 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) has successfully completed the Stage 1 audit for the ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS) certification, which was successfully conducted by Mr. Saravanan, a consultant from Bureau Veritas, on 3rd September 2025, with the support and coordination of the Centre for Quality Assurance and Accreditation (CQAA). The primary objective of this assessment was to evaluate the organization’s readiness for the upcoming Stage 2 certification audit.
The Stage 1 audit, conducted as a one-day documentation review assessment, began with a welcoming speech delivered by Professor Dr. Hj. Mohamad Abdullah bin Hemdi, AIU Deputy Vice President (Academic), highlighting the importance of achieving ISO 21001:2018 certification as part of the institution’s commitment to quality and continual improvement.
The audit was actively supported by the participation of 10 internal auditors, who contributed to the review process and demonstrated strong engagement in strengthening the management system. The assessment examined our documented management system to verify its alignment with the requirements of ISO 21001:2018, with particular focus on:
• The scope of our management system.
• Whether our documentation is complete and consistent.
• How we address our organizational context and stakeholders.
• Our overall readiness for the Stage 2 certification audit.
As part of the assessment, the consultant raised 22 audit findings, mainly related to the documentation gaps, for example, the boundaries for the scope of certification, standardization of the terms, etc. These findings highlight areas where further clarification, updates, and alignment of records are needed to ensure full conformity with ISO 21001:2018 requirements. Addressing these gaps will significantly strengthen our system and enhance readiness for the next stage.
Mr. Saravanan confirmed that the management system is well established and that the documentation provided demonstrates a strong foundation for compliance with the standard. The audit findings will be carefully addressed before the Stage 2 audit.
The successful completion of this Stage 1 audit reflects the organization’s commitment through the leadership of CQAA to continual improvement, quality in educational services, and maintaining an effective management system. The next step will be preparing for the Stage 2 certification audit, scheduled tentatively in mid-October 2025.
