ALOR SETAR, 23 February 2026 – The Centre of Reference, Albukhary International University (AIU), successfully hosted Knowledge Connect: Expert Librarian Series 3 themed “Institutional Repository: From Scholarly Content to Research Visibility” on 11 February 2026 as part of its internal training initiative to strengthen digital library development and prepare for AIU’s Institutional Repository implementation.
The session was delivered by Tuan Haji Salleh Hudin Mustaffa, former Chief Librarian of Universiti Utara Malaysia and co-founder of the Malaysian Academic Library Institutional Repository, a national platform receiving content from 27 public and private higher education institutions in Malaysia. He shared insights on managing institutional repositories and the evolving role of libraries within the digital scholarly ecosystem.
The session highlighted the importance of adopting open research and publication models to enhance research visibility, institutional discoverability, and citation performance. Emphasis was placed on the strategic role of the library in guiding researchers on open access practices, metadata quality, copyright compliance, repository workflows, and research profiling.
Key discussions included IR platform options such as DSpace and EPrints, green open access strategies, librarian-assisted deposits, and the use of standardised metadata frameworks. AIU’s immediate priority for the IR will focus on undergraduate Final Year Projects, theses and dissertations, and lecturers’ publications.
The initiative strengthens AIU Library’s professional capacity while laying a solid foundation for the Institutional Repository as a strategic investment in knowledge management, open access, and sustainable research development.
