Funded by the High Impact Community Engagement Grant, the initiative aimed to strengthen teachers’ understanding of data science literacy to support data-driven decision-making at classroom and school levels. The programme was led by Professor Dr. Zurinahni Zainol, together with Ms. Halawati and Ms. Nadiah from the School of Computing and Informatics, AIU.
The workshop was further enriched by expert contributions from Ts. Dr. Farizah Ibrahim and Dr. Noratikah from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. It was also attended by representatives from the Kedah State Education Department, namely Mr. Azmier and Mr. Rozaini Othman, Senior Assistant Directors, Science and Mathematics Unit.
A total of 30 secondary school teachers participated, gaining hands-on exposure to data science fundamentals, data analysis using Microsoft Excel, and dashboard development with Power BI to support student performance monitoring and school-level analysis.
Participant feedback was highly positive, with teachers reporting increased confidence in applying data-driven approaches in teaching and school management. Following the workshop, participants will cascade the knowledge by conducting training sessions for students in their respective schools.
This initiative reflects AIU’s commitment to community empowerment, digital literacy, and sustainable educational impact.
