ALOR SETAR, 15 December 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) hosted its 2nd BSD Public Lecture on 2 December 2025 at the Senate Foyer, Chancellery Building. The lecture focused on The SDGs and Post-2030 Global Development Agenda: Key Issues and Challenges and featured Dr. Victor P. Karunan, international consultant for UNICEF and the United Nations.
Organised by the Centre for Development of Academic Excellence (CDAE) and the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), the session brought together academics, students, and public healthcare professionals to reflect on the evolution of global development, from the MDGs to the SDGs and beyond 2030.
AIU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Prof. Dr. Hj. Mohamad Abdullah Bin Hemdi, welcomed healthcare representatives from the Kota Setar Health Department and emphasised the importance of exposing students to real-world development practitioners.
Drawing from his experience across Asia and Africa, Dr. Karunan encouraged participants to view the SDGs as a foundation for long-term, rights-based, and inclusive development. The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session on policy gaps, local challenges, and the role of youth in driving sustainable change.
In his closing remarks, AIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Saleh Bin Jaafar reaffirmed AIU’s commitment to education for social impact, inspired by Professor Muhammad Yunus’ Three Zero vision of a more just and sustainable world.
