ALOR SETAR, 1 December 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) proudly celebrates the achievement of Mr. Afifi Nordin from the Department of Politics and International Relations, School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), who was the only participant selected from Malaysia to join the Regional Research Training Workshop titled An Interdisciplinary Co-Production of Knowledge: Advancing Human Rights and Peace in Asia.
Organised by SHAPE-SEA (Strengthening Human Rights and Peace in Southeast Asia), the fully funded workshop was held from 25 to 28 November 2025 at Mahidol University, Thailand. With more than 400 applicants from across Asia, the programme stands as one of the region’s most competitive human rights research platforms.
The four-day training gathered emerging scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing community-centred research in human rights and peace. Supported by institutions such as the Institute for Human Rights and Peace (Mahidol University), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the workshop offered a deeply interdisciplinary curriculum.
Participants explored diverse research lenses including decoloniality, indigenous practices, feminist pedagogy, environmental storytelling, and the role of AI in digital ethnography. The programme concluded with panel presentations, allowing scholars to showcase their work and apply the methods learned.
A key message echoed throughout the workshop, as expressed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Vice President of Mahidol University:
