ALOR SETAR, 7 October 2025 – On 4 October 2025, the Penang Math Platform hosted a dynamic workshop under the banner of Great English and Math Stars (GEMS) 2025. The session was designed to prepare participants for Pitch for the Planet, a lower secondary pitching competition centred on environmental and sustainability issues, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The workshop was conducted by a strong trio of facilitators: Mdm Alia Hanim Zainal Abidin and Mr Mohd Fadli Zakaria from Albukhary International University (AIU), together with Dr Amrah Abdul Majid from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). They were supported by four AIU Foundation Studies students, Phyu Sin Thant, Youne Wadi Oo, Nurul Aina Azhar and Hamdha Banu Ainudeen Hasiyar, who assisted in guiding participants throughout the day.
The event introduced young students aged 13 to 15 to the art of pitching, helping them develop creativity, critical thinking and public speaking skills while strengthening values-based education (VBE) through responsibility, respect, empathy and integrity. By providing structured training and an engaging platform, Pitch for the Planet empowers students to present innovative solutions to real audiences and judges, nurturing the next generation of changemakers in Malaysia.
