ALOR SETAR, 22 September 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU), through its Community Grant initiative, organized a meaningful engagement programme with the Rohingya community in Sungai Petani under the project titled “Promoting Social Harmony between the Rohingyas and the Mainstream Community in Sungai Petani.” on 20 September 2025.
The project was spearheaded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mikio Oishi, with co-researchers Madam Nur Arfah and Mr. Aiman Muqri, as part of AIU’s commitment to advancing community-based research that addresses pressing social issues.
A team of AIU students, Mr. Khandokar Sakibur, Ms. May Myat Thu, and Mr. Soe Min Sithu, played an integral role as facilitators throughout the programme. Their involvement not only bridged academic knowledge with practical application but also created a dynamic and supportive environment for fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between the Rohingya community and the mainstream society.
The initiative provided a platform for cultural exchange, interactive discussions, and collaborative learning, emphasizing inclusivity, respect, and cooperation. By engaging directly with the community, the programme encouraged empathy, reduced social barriers, and promoted harmonious coexistence.
This effort underscores AIU’s mission to cultivate compassionate, socially responsible graduates while extending the university’s educational and research impact to marginalized communities. By combining scholarship with community engagement, the project reflects AIU’s dedication to promoting peace, social harmony, and inclusive development.
