ALOR SETAR, 8 September 2025 – The Sri Lankan Students Association (SLSA) of Albukhary International University (AIU), in collaboration with the Human Resource Management (HRM) Club, successfully carried out its first community engagement initiative, the “Fun with English” project, at Pertubuhan Jagaan Kasih in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, on 6 September 2025.
The half-day programme aimed to empower children aged 7–12 with practical English communication skills through engaging, activity-based learning. A total of 24 children from the orphanage participated, guided by 9 student volunteers from both HRM Club and SLSA.
Throughout the day, the children took part in engaging activities such as a “Name + Action” icebreaker, reading circles, creative writing and drawing exercises, and storytelling with worksheets to strengthen comprehension skills. Energetic games like “Simon Says – English Version,” “Words Whispering,” and “Pass the Ball Q&A” kept the children motivated while encouraging spontaneous speaking, teamwork, and confidence-building.
The programme also provided time for casual bonding during snack and lunch breaks, allowing volunteers and children to interact closely in a supportive environment. To conclude the initiative, each child received a stationery kit as a token of encouragement. A group photo and closing remarks wrapped up the event, leaving behind smiles, laughter, and a spirit of shared learning.
The “Fun with English” initiative reflects AIU’s mission to foster compassionate, socially responsible graduates while extending educational opportunities to underserved communities. By blending creativity, play, and language learning, the programme not only strengthened the children’s communication skills but also inspired a love for learning in a fun and memorable way.
