ALOR SETAR, 25 August 2025 -The Centre of Reference introduced the Knowledge Connect: Expert Librarians Series as an initiative to support staff development, encourage knowledge sharing, and foster collaboration with librarians and experts from other universities. The series aims to strengthen the capacity of staff to support research, scholarly publishing, and academic excellence. This first program marks the beginning of continuous engagements that will bring valuable expertise to the AIU community.
In collaboration with the Centre for Research, Innovation and Management (CRIM), the Centre of Reference successfully organized the first program in the series, themed “Library Strategies in Journal Evaluation: The USM Approach.” The event was held on 21 August 2025, from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm, at the Level 1 AIU Library Meeting Room.
The program was attended by all Centre of Reference staff together with two representatives from CRIM, Nur Ilani binti Rusli and Anis binti Roslan. It featured three guest senior librarians from Hamzah Sendut Library, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM): Dr. Ikhwan Ismail, Research Data Management Division; Ms. Hasniza Amno, Reference and Academic Support Division; and Ms. Noor Adilah Azmi, Research Data Management Division.
The guest speakers shared their expertise on various aspects of research support and scholarly communication. Their presentations covered the use of citation index databases such as Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Master Journal List, and MyCite; practical methods in applying MyRA1 for journal evaluation, including checking lecturer papers in citation index databases and extracting data for C1 (a–g); a basic guide to scholarly publishing; the use of AI-powered Journal Suggestor tools to assist researchers in selecting suitable journals; and strategies for identifying and avoiding predatory journals.
The program provided valuable insights for staff and strengthened the collaboration between the Centre of Reference and CRIM in supporting research and publication excellence. The Centre of Reference extends its gratitude to CRIM for the collaboration and to the guest speakers from USM for their invaluable contributions to the success of the program.
