ALOR SETAR, 4 July 2025 – Student leaders and mentors participating in the 3ZERO Club Convention 2025 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have been urged to strengthen collaboration and scale up their missions to achieve Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus’ vision of a “three-zero world”: zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions.
The strong call to action was delivered by Ms. Sharifah Sofia, Trustee of the Albukhary Foundation, who shared her perspective on “𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 – 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲” with youth leaders dedicated to promoting sustainable and socially innovative solutions at North South University on 30 June, in conjunction with the 15th Social Business Day.
Highlighting the urgent need to challenge leadership driven by greed and profit maximisation, she urged participants to take collective responsibility for realising this vision. She called on attendees to serve as mentors, share ideas, identify gaps, and ensure resources are used effectively.
“𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳,” she argued, “𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺.”
Emphasising the role of the educated and action-oriented, she underlined the importance of courage in questioning the status quo and imagining alternative futures.
She encouraged a problem-solving mindset focused on clear problem definition and inclusive collaboration, rather than predetermined solutions, and stressed the need for clarity around policy priorities, effective communication with decision-makers, and leadership grounded in humanity and courage.
She also shared Albukhary International University’s (AIU) “3×3 matrix” model, which integrates research, education, and innovation with its three-zero missions. She noted that every member of the university community, from board members to students and staff, shares the responsibility of championing one of the three zeros.
“𝘛𝘰 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘈𝘐𝘜 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 110 3𝘡𝘌𝘙𝘖 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘣𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘴, 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 550 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦-𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴-𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘣𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴,” she added.
Looking ahead, she called on all universities represented at the convention to establish at least 10 additional 3ZERO Clubs each. In Malaysia, AIU set an ambitious goal of creating 100 new clubs over the next year, 50 within the university and 50 beyond its campus.
She concluded her address with a call for collective commitment to expand the three-zero movement and accelerate progress toward a more just, sustainable, and inclusive future.
