AIU students support Kampung Padang Chapa youth with jobs and English skills

ALOR SETAR, 1 July 2025 — Albukhary Centre for Socio-economic Development and Innovation (ACE-SEDI) marked the end of the SBSS final-year students’ Social Business II projects with a closing ceremony at AIU on 27 June 2025, in collaboration with Kampung Padang Chapa.

 

The ceremony was attended by AIU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suraya Hanim Mokhtar, Kota Setar Youth and Sports Officer, Madam Nazifah Muhammad Zubir, Padang Chapa Youth Club Chairperson, Miss Nurul Iman Zainol, Kampung Padang Chapa representative, Madam Hazma Riza Romli, along with parents and local community members.

 

This semester, three student project groups, Mic & Me, Oh My English, and D-Kampung, worked with the Padang Chapa Youth Club and Kota Setar District’s Youth and Sports Office. Over 14 weeks, they delivered social solutions addressing two key issues: improving English proficiency among school children and tackling youth unemployment in the village.

 

The student-run, fee-based workshops had a positive impact on the target groups. Feedback from parents and participants was overwhelmingly encouraging, with many expressing hopes that AIU will continue offering similar programmes.

 

In her speech, Madam Nazihah Binti Muhammad Zubir stressed the importance of partnerships between the university, community, and local agencies to develop practical, innovative solutions to challenges such as poverty and education. She noted that collaboration leverages the strengths of all stakeholders.

ACE-SEDI also expressed its commitment to supporting AIU 3ZERO Clubs in continuing projects with the Padang Chapa community and nearby groups.
