ALOR SETAR, 25 June 2025 – Representatives from Albukhary International University (AIU) took part in the “Trauma Intervention for Health Professionals & Counsellors” workshop held on 21 June 2025 (Saturday) at Hotel Seri Malaysia, Kulim. The workshop was organized by Jabatan Psikiatri dan Kesihatan Mental, Hospital Kulim in collaboration with TEMAN, and brought together professionals from across Malaysia for a day of impactful learning and engagement.
AIU was represented by Madam Fazlia and Mr. Shafiq (AIU Counsellors), Mr. Nidhoil (Director of the Centre for Student Affairs & Alumni), as well as Mr. Hazween and Miss Nurul Izzati (Executives cum Wardens).
The workshop was led by Dr. Rozanizam Zakaria, a highly respected psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), widely known for his work in trauma recovery and mental health. The program aimed to strengthen trauma-informed care skills and clinical intervention strategies among health and counselling professionals.
Participants gained valuable insights into trauma theory and its clinical manifestations, took part in interactive sessions involving group work and real-case trauma formulation, and had the opportunity to hear directly from a trauma survivor – an experience that deeply enriched their practical understanding and empathy.
The event also served as a valuable platform for networking, enabling AIU representatives to connect with fellow mental health professionals from various institutions across Malaysia.
AIU’s participation in this national workshop underscores the university’s continued commitment to student well-being, professional development, and mental health advocacy. By embracing trauma-informed principles, AIU enhances its ability to provide effective emotional support, implement resilience-based programming, and further strengthen its counselling services for the benefit of its student community.
