ALOR SETAR, 19 June 2025 — Albukhary International University (AIU) recently hosted the 2025 edition of the AIU Model ASEAN Meeting (AIU MAM), a two-day diplomatic simulation programme that brought together student delegates from institutions across Northern Malaysia.
Held from 14 to 15 June at AIU’s Senate Room, the event invited participants to reimagine regional cooperation under the theme, “𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘚𝘌𝘈𝘕.”
Spearheaded by the Indonesian Students’ Association at AIU (PPI AIU), in collaboration with the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), the event served as a platform for students to engage in high-level discourse on real-world challenges facing ASEAN member states. The programme was designed to foster leadership, critical thinking, and cross-cultural collaboration, all within the framework of ASEAN’s institutional structure.
Over the course of the simulation, delegates participated in various councils and ministerial-level meetings, ranging from the ASEAN Summit to Sectoral Ministerial and Community Council meetings. Discussions covered urgent topics such as regional cybersecurity strategies, the integration of artificial intelligence in manufacturing, and the role of technology in cultural preservation. Each session was designed to mirror actual ASEAN processes, culminating in the adoption of a Chairman’s Statement during the final plenary.
The event also celebrated outstanding contributions with special recognitions for Best Delegate, Best Position Paper, and Best Team, awarded during the ASEAN Executive Night. All delegates received commemorative items as souvenirs, and a certificate of appreciation for what many described as an enriching and transformative experience.
The AIU MAM 2025 provided more than a platform for student diplomacy; it echoed the university’s evolving role as a catalyst for thoughtful leadership in a complex, interconnected region. By anchoring global issues in a local academic context, AIU continues to foster a learning environment where dialogue, innovation, and regional collaboration are not abstract ideals but lived experiences.
