ALOR SETAR, 3 JUNE 2025 – In a night filled with reflection, solidarity, and deep emotion, the AIU – Arab Students Association (ARSA), in collaboration with the Palestinian Students Association in Malaysia, hosted a profoundly moving event to mark the 77th Anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, titled “NEXT IS YOU – 77 Years Since the Nakba.”
Held on 30 May 2025 at the University Auditorium, the event became more than a commemoration — it was a collective cry for justice, a moment of remembrance, and a call to conscience. For many in the audience, it was not just a history lesson but a lived reality that continues to echo in the hearts of millions of Palestinians and supporters around the world.
The evening began with a heartfelt welcoming address by Mr. Abdul Shakur, who invited everyone in the room to open their minds and their hearts to the pain, strength, and enduring resilience of the Palestinian people.
Mr. Osaid then delivered a deeply stirring historical presentation. He walked the audience through the milestones of Palestine’s decades-long struggle from the trauma of the 1948 Nakba to the persistent challenges under occupation, painting a vivid picture of pain, endurance, and hope. His words invited the audience to emotionally connect to the Palestinian narrative.
But the most heart-wrenching moment came through a live call from Mr. Ahmed in Gaza. Speaking directly from a land under siege, he shared raw, unfiltered glimpses into life amid bombardment, restrictions, and fear. His voice, filled with both pain and resilience, silenced the Auditorium, a chilling reminder that the Nakba is a living and breathing crisis.
A deeply emotional drama performance, “Palestine as a Test for Humanity,” brought tears to many eyes as it portrayed the moral and ethical struggle the world faces in responding to ongoing injustice. The message was clear: neutrality in the face of oppression is complicity.
Students from diverse backgrounds lent their voices through powerful poetry and speeches, weaving personal reflection with calls to action. Their contributions reminded everyone present that solidarity knows no borders and that the responsibility to act belongs to all of us.
ARSA extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who made this evening a success, from the passionate student organizers and performers to attendees from over five Arab countries and beyond.
As the lights dimmed and the audience departed, the spirit of the evening lingered — a shared understanding that the Nakba is not just history. It is now. And it truly matters.
