ALOR SETAR, 22 May 2025 — Albukhary International University (AIU) proudly hosted a transformative Special Leadership Training Programme from 30 April to 3 May 2025, welcoming 38 orphaned students sponsored by the Albukhary Foundation, 29 from Tawau and Semporna, Sabah, and 9 from Kedah, to its campus in Alor Setar.
The four-day programme was designed to build leadership skills, ignite self-belief, nurture resilience, and open doors to higher education opportunities, particularly at AIU. Participants dove into a series of hands-on and inspiring sessions. One of the standout moments was Inspiring Minds with Cikgu Mohd Zaki Ali, which guided students through self-reflection, identifying personal values, building dreams, and fostering teamwork, all culminating in a personal action plan. This was followed by Memahami Aspirasi Kerjaya by Cikgu Mohd Ferqdaus, focusing on career exploration and aligning passions with purpose.
Another key session, Social Business & 3ZERO, led by Mr. Masrani Awang and AIU student facilitators, introduced AIU’s signature 3ZERO mission: Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment, and Zero Net Carbon Emissions. During the session, participants shared the 3ZERO projects they plan to implement at their schools and the positive impact they aim to create through these initiatives.
A special AIU application support session was also held to assist the SPM-leaver participants from Sabah in completing and submitting their university applications, resulting in 11 submissions and marking an important milestone in their journey toward higher education.
Participants also enjoyed a guided tour of the AIU campus and explored the cultural and historical highlights of Alor Setar city, giving them a deeper sense of place and community.
The impact was truly inspiring. Over just a few days, participants blossomed and expressed renewed motivation to pursue higher education.
Afiq Hakimi from Akademi Sains Pendang shared that this programme helped him improve his communication and leadership skills. “I am now more confident about speaking in front of others, and I’ve learned the importance of teamwork and international collaboration”, he added.
Nurul Ain from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kinabutan II, Tawau added that meeting new friends and having the opportunity to connect with AIU facilitators was an unforgettable experience. “This programme has given me new insights and confidence to pursue my dreams,” she said. She also expressed that the inspiring environment and motivation gained throughout the programme have encouraged both her and her friends to aspire to further their studies at Albukhary International University (AIU).
One belief that resonated throughout the programme was this: “No dream is too big when a young person is given the chance, the support, and someone who truly believes in them.”
