Igniting Social Change: YM Datin Raja Riza Shazmin’s Powerful Message to Albukhary International Students
ALOR SETAR, KEDAH – School of Business and Social Sciences, Albukhary International University (AIU) successfully hosted an engaging and insightful leadership session on April 18, 2025, featuring YM Datin Raja Riza Shazmin Bt Raja Badrul Shah, CEO of the Mercy Center of Humanitarian Development, as the guest speaker.
Held at the Auditorium from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the event titled “Leadership in Human Services and NGOs: Creating a Positive Social Impact” drew a large and diverse audience comprising students, faculty, and humanitarian enthusiasts. The session offered a powerful reflection on the importance of servant leadership, legal empowerment, and sustainable impact within the non-profit and human services sector.
With over two decades of experience in law and humanitarian work, YM Raja Datin Riza shared personal stories from her extensive journey – including her volunteer leadership with MERCY Malaysia from 2003 to 2023, and her contributions during the pandemic as Director of Philanthropy at Sunway Education Group. She also discussed her experiences navigating legal challenges, leading international missions, and driving policy initiatives in both local and global contexts.
Her speech was both motivating and deeply informative, emphasizing the need for ethical leadership, strategic collaboration, and compassion in driving community-based change. Attendees praised the session for its authenticity and relevance, especially for those aspiring to work in NGOs, law, or social development.
The talk continued with a lively Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker, followed by a networking segment. To wrap up the session on a high note, a lively quiz session was held, sparking excitement and enthusiastic participation among students. The interactive segment tested their attention to the talk’s key takeaways and added a fun, engaging element to the learning experience
