AIU’s Contribution to Global Sustainability Education Featured in Hangzhou China

ALOR SETAR, 14 January 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) continues to reaffirm its contribution in sustainability education and global collaboration through a recent visit to Hangzhou, China, by Prof. Dr. Munirah binti Ghazali from the School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS).
Representing AIU as the Asia-Pacific Regional Advisor for the Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development under the United Nations University’s Institute of Advanced Studies, Prof. Dr. Munirah took part in a series of impactful activities from 26 – 27 December 2024.
A key highlight of the visit was Prof. Dr. Munirah’s keynote address at the 5th International Symposium on Water Education for Youth. Her compelling presentation, titled “Innovation and International Collaboration in Climate Change and Water Education: A Social Business Approach in Students’ Initiatives,” emphasized AIU’s pioneering initiatives in merging sustainability education with entrepreneurship. Through the ATECCE international project, she highlighted the university’s role in driving innovative and practical solutions to address global climate challenges, inspiring participants to explore similar transformative initiatives.
“This experience has greatly enhanced AIU’s reputation as an emerging leader in sustainability education while enriching my own academic and professional journey. It reaffirms our commitment to equipping future leaders with innovative and sustainable approaches,” said Prof. Dr. Munirah.
Her visit included several significant activities, beginning with her participation in the Science and Technology Festival at Taiyan Elementary School, where she recognized the accomplishments of young innovators by presenting awards to the recipients of the Top 10 Science Innovation Award.
She was also invited as a Guest Lecturer at Zhejiang International Studies University (ZISU), where she delivered a talk titled “Innovation and International Collaboration in Climate Change and Water Education.” Prof. Dr. Munirah shared practical strategies for aligning education with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her insights inspired ZISU faculty and students to incorporate sustainability-focused initiatives into their academic programmes.
In addition, she took the opportunity to visit and interact with leadership from leading organizations, including the Zhejiang Provincial Federation for Science Popularization and Green Zhejiang, both of which are pioneers in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives.
Prof. Dr. Munirah expressed her heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the continuous support of AIU and the invaluable collaboration and hospitality extended by RCE Hangzhou, Taiyan Elementary School, Zhejiang Provincial Federation for Science Popularization, Green Zhejiang, Zhejiang International Studies University, and Nanxiaobu Primary School.
