AIU Alive Shop is a green social business project under Zero Net Carbon Emission Cluster of Social Business Design Lab, AIU. The project is led by AIU student, Bintang Astiana and her team with Dr. Nawal serving as their advisor. The purpose of this project is to donate some of the sales profit of AIU Alive Shop to rural children by buying tablets to help them with online learning specifically in Baling, Kedah. Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Puan Habsah, Baling, Kedah was chosen to receive it. The tablets were given to students selected by the teachers based on their academic performance and income level. After the tablet giving ceremony, fun games and activities were done to appreciate other students who attended the event.

After that, Yunus Social Business Center also known as YSBCs Malaysia had a meeting at the AIU Senate Room to discuss progress and future projects. AIU established Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC), affiliated to the Yunus Centre of Dhaka, Bangladesh to be a conduit for applied research programme in bridging inequality at the very bottom of the wealth pyramid.YSBCs and partners in attendance included a variety of NGOs and social entrepreneurs who discussed current challenges and upcoming events.

Social Business Symposium is a two-day symposium designed as part of AIU’s first convocation with the auspicious presence of the honourable Chancellor, Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. This symposium intends to unify all six other YSBCs in Malaysia and AIU Grant Recipients while following best practices through sharing knowledge and innovative ideas to address crucial global socio-economic problems.

Prof. Muhammad Yunus held a Social Business dialogue session at the Convocation Hall on March 27th, with over 100 AIU students in attendance. Together, they formed the Social Business Design Lab in July 2020, with Dr. Suraya as the moderator. Students participated in a question-and-answer session with Prof Muhammad Yunus, who gave them first-hand information and encouraged them to become social business entrepreneurs rather than job seekers. The AIU-Social Business Design Lab is a brainstorming platform where students can use their minds to come up with social solutions and social innovation ideas.

Albukhary International University has organized its very 1 st convocation. The theme of this glorious ceremony is “Inspiring Minds”. The convocation was held in the Albukhary International University Convocation Hall and was attended by dignitaries, faculty members, and a total of 146 graduates, as well as their parents and families. The Chancellor, Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus officiated and awarded the Bachelor’s Degree and Foundation certificates.

Founder Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah bin Syed Nor Albukhary was also present to celebrate the graduands success. During the convocation, a total of four awards were presented. The Chancellor’s Award, Sharifah Rokiah Special Award, Vice Chancellor’s Award, and Best Student for Foundation Studies. Masrani Awang from the School of Business and Social Sciences was presented with the Sharifah Rokiah Sepcial Award. Karem Mohamed and Mariyam Ramshau also from the the School of Business and Social Sciences was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award. Recipients of Best Students for Foundation Studies are Tin Cherry Thinn and Shania Syafira.

Following the convocation on March 26th, Chancellor Professor Muhammad Yunus and Board of Governors representative Ms. Sharifah Sofia bt Syed Mokhtar paid a visit to the Social Business Project in Baling, Kedah, accompanied by Dr. Suraya Hanim Mokhtar, the project’s head, and the advisors of AIU’s Zero Poverty Club, Social Business Design Lab. They went to a locally-made “kerepek” business and Strawberry House Nursery, both of which were created in partnership with the Baling community.

The courtesy visit to the Embassy of Turkmenistan was warmly hosted by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, H.E. Muhammetnyyaz Mashalov and Consul, Mr Vepa Pirkulyyev.

A discussion was held at the Intermark Tower with representatives of the Nagashi Relief and Development NGO, Abdoruhman Mohamed Merant and Ali Mansour Ali Amir to bring to AIU Eritrean refugees in Sudan.

The courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia was warmly hosted by the Ambassador, H.E. Dr. Ivan Velimir Starčević and Consul, Ms. Nera Nemec.

• Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The courtesy visit to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina was warmly hosted by the Ambassador, H.E. Prof. Dr. Senaid Memić and Consul, Mr. Milenko Rajlić. During the visit, H.E. Prof. Dr. Senaid Memić and YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abd. Aziz Tajuddin gave a welcoming remarks via Zoom application at the AIU CEO Talk delivered by Datuk Amer Bukvić, CEO of Bosna Bank International.

• NAMA Foundation

NAMA Foundation is founded to empower the education sector and civil communities organisation throughout the world through institutional grants and partnership building. A meeting was held with the CEO of NAMA Foundation, Dr. Saleh Mubarak Bazead and Partnership Executive, Mr Ahmad Nursyahir bin Ahmad Tajudin and Mr Md Ghani Ibrahim to discuss several collaborations between AIU and NAMA Foundation.

8^th April 2021 (Thursday):

• SMK Gombak Setia

AIU representatives met up with the Principal of SMK Gombak Setia, Mr. Samsuki Bin Sudin and school counsellor, Mr. Johan, at the school which houses over 300 STPM candidates to discuss possible collaboration between SMK Gombak Setia, other schools in Gombak and Selangor and AIU.

• Kolej Tingkatan Enam Desa Mahkota

Representatives from AIU received a warm welcome by the Principal of Kolej Tingkatan Enam Desa Mahkota, Ms Rose Haliza Bt. Kamaludin and Counsellor, Ms Fazliah, at the college premise.

• Muslim Aid Malaysia

The visit to the office of Muslim Aid Malaysia in Bangsar was hosted by the Chairman of Muslim Aid Malaysia, Mr Wan Rusli Wan Muda, Chief Operating Officer, Ms Habsah Marjuni and Consultant, Ms Aimy Bazura Mohamed. Muslim Aid Malaysia takes special interest in orphans, refugees and internally displaced people, communities caught in the cycles of poverty, and survivors of disasters.

• Project ID

Project ID is a student development and empowerment programme that equip students with a set core values – grit, zest and collaboration – to help them achieve their career aspirations. AIU representatives were met with Project ID co-founder, Mr Kelvin Tan and Programme Associate, Mr Abdul Mubin Mohd Hanafiah.
