Sport Program: Kejohanan Kedah Cricket T10 Championship

SUNGAI PETANI, May 3-5,2024 – The Albukhary International University (AIU) Cricket Club showcased outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout the tournament held in Sungai Petani. This prestigious event involved the participation of esteemed teams, including representatives from Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, and Penang, gearing up for the upcoming Sukma Sarawak 2024.

In the group stage, our team demonstrated resilience and skill, securing victories in 2 out of 3 games. This commendable effort propelled us to the semi-finals, where we faced off against the formidable Sukma Kedah team. Although we fell short in the semi-final match, our team rallied together to secure an honorable third/fourth place position, competing against Penang.

The championship title was claimed by the Terengganu Sukma team, with the Kedah Sukma team securing the first runner-up position. AIU Cricket Club proudly clinched the second runner-up spot, a testament to our dedication and competitive spirit.

AIU SRC Members Elects New President

ALOR SETAR, 14 March 2024 – The Leadership Camp for newly elected Student Representatives Council (SRC) members was successfully organized by the Student Affairs Department of Albukhary International University (AIU) from March 5th to March 7th, 2024, at Hibiscus Sedim in Kulim Kedah.

One of the highlights of this Leadership Camp was the election procedure for key SRC positions. The process encompassed several stages: initial voting by all newly elected SRC members to nominate the top 5 candidates, evaluation of the top 5 candidates using a weighted score derived from both voting and individual rubrics, conducting interviews, and ultimately voting to nominate candidates for the 4 top SRC positions.

Brother Monir Mohammad Hamid Abdulrahman [AIU21102216] has been elected as the new President of SRC. He will be supported by two Vice Presidents: Brother Naufal Syauqi Abdul Halim [AIU22102129] as Vice President I and Brother Abdulmajid Aliya Muhammad [AIU22102349] as Vice President II. In addition, Sister Khin Myat Noe [AIU22102149] has been elected as the Secretary.

The primary objective of the Leadership Camp was to provide comprehensive training to newly elected SRC members, fostering the 5As Core Values and the development of their teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills, alongside promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle aligned with the principles of the 8-Hour Rule. The programme also facilitated the election process for key SRC positions, including President, Vice President I, Vice President II, and Secretary, for the year 2024.

The modules covered a wide array of topics crucial for cultivating effective leadership. The core modules included sessions on “Working and Leading Together” delivered by Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Razali Muhamad, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); “Writing Effective Proposals” presented by Mr. Ahmad Muaz Azizan and Madam Nur Atikah Zainal Abidin; and “Getting and Keeping Motivated” led by Madam Fazlia Azhari. The talk also featured Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Abd Aziz Tajuddin, Vice Chancellor and President of AIU who addressed the participants on the “8-Hour Rule and 5As Core Values”.

Final-year AIU SEHS Students Attend Leadership Enrichment Programme

ALOR SETAR, 11 March 2024 – An educational and leadership development programme targeted towards final-year students at the School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS), Albukhary International University (AIU) took place from 3^rd to 5^th March 2024 in Kem Singkir, Yan, Kedah. This programme garnered attention from participants across various educational fields. The event was aimed at providing participants with opportunities to strengthen their leadership and teaching skills.

Led by primary facilitators from the State Education Department (JPN) and accompanied by SEHS Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Shahrom Tengku Shahdan, as well as the Head of Programmes including Ms. Aini Syahira Jamaluddin, Ms. Aina Yasmin Mohd Amin, Mr. Mohamad Nor Hisyam Musa, and a BECE lecturer, Ms. Nur Faridatul Jamalia Radzali, participants were actively involved in a range of outdoor activities. These activities included kayaking, abseiling, marching, trekking, and survival activities. Additionally, they were provided with detailed information about the development programme and available opportunities to enhance their professionalism in the field of education.

Furthermore, participants were encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences with fellow attendees, while receiving guidance to improve their skills and knowledge in both education and leadership.

This programme provided an excellent platform to strengthen relationships among educators and expand their professional networks. It is hoped that this event will continue in the future, especially for the final-year students from all programmes.

Malay Language Choral Speaking and Poetry Programme Ignites Cultural Passion

ALOR SETAR, 16 February 2024 – 183 international students of Albukhary International University (AIU) took part in the Malay Language Choral Speaking and Poetry Programme held on February 14, 2024, at the Auditorium, AIU. The event was part of the Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi II (Malay Language Communication II) Course organized by Dr. Husairi Hussin, the Course Instructor, in collaboration with the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Northern Chapter and the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), AIU.

Dr. Husairi expressed his joy, stating, “I am thrilled that after three months of teaching international students who initially lacked familiarity with the Malay Language, except students from Indonesia and Thailand, they have successfully demonstrated proficiency through choral speaking as anticipated. Even representatives from DBP and members of Angkatan Sasterawan Nasional Kedah (ASASI) who were present at the event expressed pride in the students’ commendable speaking abilities. May the endeavour to promote the Malay language at AIU persist, God willing.”

He added, “We hold the belief that engaging in these activities will encourage international students to utilize the Malay language, thereby nurturing a stronger bond with our language and heritage over time.”

Prof. Dr. Nor Azilah Husin, the Dean of SBSS, remarked, “Mastering the Malay language isn’t intimidating since we utilize the same Roman letters as in English. This similarity significantly facilitates comprehension. Through these activities, the learning journey becomes both easy and enjoyable.”

“Here, we’ve had the chance to fully engage with Malaysian culture through poetry and choral speaking regardless of our nationalities. It’s a fresh and enriching experience for international students,” commented Fatimiyah Abas Abdul Manan Nduen, representing the winning team.

Alongside the group showcases by students, the event featured performances by members of ASASI, including Nur Ameera Nabila Binti Azmi, Farahida Camelia Binti Fadzil, Mohd Faizal Bin Mehat, and Wan Mohammad Taufik bin Wan Mohd Kamal.

Also present were Khairul Anum Mohd Ali, the Deputy Director of DBP Northern Chapter, Zalina Ahmad, the DBP Munsyi (the DBP Language Expert), and Noor Hayati Haya, the School Improvement Specialist Coach (SISC) + Social Science, Kuala Muda/Yan District Education Office, and Abdul Shakur Abdullah, the Director of Corporate Communication and Marketing Department, AIU.

AIU 3ZERO Clubs Won Gold Medals and the Best Presenter Award at the International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Carnival (IIEC) 2024

ALOR SETAR, 8 February 2024 – Two teams affiliated with Albukhary International University (AIU) 3ZERO CLUB, known as PaperReverse and AromaRevive won Gold Medals in the Invitation Category at the International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Carnival (IIEC) 2024, which was held at the Kolej MARA Kuala Nerang on 5 February 2024. Kolej MARA Kuala Nerang initiated the event intending to nurture future leaders with innovative approaches, empowering them to directly address global challenges.

The competition gathered 198 entries, with 93 participants joining virtually and 105 attending in person. Categorized into five sections, Primary School, Secondary School, Foundation/Matriculation, Diploma Programme, and Invitation, the event offered a platform for participants to exhibit their talents and innovative ideas or products.

The team AromaRevive comprising May Myat Noe and Hnin Pwint Phyu from Myanmar, Thinley Yeshey Choden from Bhutan, and Munirah Ibrahim Mohamed from Ethiopia developed an innovative product, a wax-scented tablet made from recycled cooking oil.

While PaperReverse, comprising Petros Mwatura T and Patrick III Senderayi from Zimbabwe, Georgina Guinevere Anak Leslie and Siti Nur Aisyah Binti Omar from Malaysia, and Nur Fathia Andina from Indonesia, impressed the judges with its eco-friendly products. These products include clocks, chess sets, and side tables crafted from recycled paper. Additionally, the team secured the Best Presenter Award.

The teams expressed their gratitude for attaining the Gold Medals, emphasizing that this achievement would energize their determination to strive for even greater success in the future. They also hoped their achievements would inspire other 3ZERO Clubs at AIU to strive for similar success.

They remarked, “These achievements reflect AIU’s dedication to fostering positive change through Social Business and the 3ZERO agenda. Indeed, we are thankful for engaging in these activities as they provide opportunities for us to be innovative and creative while making a positive impact on the environment and the community.”

The closing and prize-giving ceremony was honored by the attendance of Puan Faizah Binti Abu Bakar, Director of Kolej MARA Kuala Nerang, and Puan Hajah Ani Mardiah Binti Azmin @ Che Wan, Director of MARA Excellence Academy.

The Gold Award winners returned with their medals and certificates, while the recipient of the Best Presenter Award received a cash prize of RM300.

AIU BECE Students Reach Out to Autistic Children

ALOR SETAR, 6 February 2024 – A group of 25 students enrolled in the Bachelor in Early Childhood Education (Honours) (BECE) Programme at Albukhary International University (AIU) participated in a collaborative initiative with the National Autism Society Malaysia (NASOM) Alor Setar held, yesterday.

The programme which took place at the NASOM Centre Alor Setar aimed at fostering an inclusive learning environment that encourages the participation of all children, regardless of their abilities, and promotes a sense of belonging.

The BECE students were tasked to use practical inclusive teaching strategies and implement suitable assessment strategies from classroom lessons to address the individual learning needs of autistic children. There were 7 stations of activities targeting a variety of children’s developmental domains.

The Coordinator of NASOM Alor Setar, Teacher Yana highlighted that the centre provides an early intervention programme for children with autism, with a range of services. She mentioned that while awareness about autism is on the rise, there remains a challenge in obtaining financial assistance, particularly for NGOs catering to special needs children in Alor Setar.

The participants conveyed their admiration for the special needs educators who demonstrate dedication and a willingness to wholeheartedly engage in the education of autistic children, despite the difficulties associated with managing their abilities and behaviours.

The programme ended with a discussion of future community engagement projects such as the Charity Run which is expected to take place in May this year.

The aspiration for this programme is to provide BECE students with hands-on experience in implementing inclusive teaching methods besides taking an initial step towards fostering a more inclusive community.

Student Democracy in Action as AIU Students Cast Votes for Representative Council Leadership

ALOR SETAR, 4 February 2024 – In a lively and democratic atmosphere, 973 students out of 1264 enrolled at Albukhary International University (AIU) participated in the voting process, to choose their leaders for the upcoming 2023/2024 term in the eagerly anticipated Student Representative Council (SRC) General Election. The election, held today from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, experienced a significant rise in voter turnout reaching 77%, in contrast to the previous year. This increase highlights the students’ eagerness to actively participate in shaping the future of their student council.

Excitement filled the campus as students eagerly queued up at polling stations to exercise their voting rights for 10 general seats, 4 seats dedicated to the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), 4 for the School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS), and 2 for the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI).

This year’s SRC General Election featured a diverse range of candidates, each presenting unique perspectives on how to enhance student life, address concerns, and foster a more inclusive and vibrant campus community. The candidates, representing different academic programmes, brought forth a variety of ideas to address issues ranging from academic support to campus sustainability.

Leading up to the election day, the Secretariat organized a variety of student engagement activities, involving open campaigns on both physical and social media platforms, along with public speaking sessions. These endeavours provided students with opportunities to interact with the candidates, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the candidates’ visions for the student body.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Razali Muhamad, announced the election results in the presence of candidates and their supporters at the Senate Foyer, Chancellery Building. The newly elected SRC members were reminded of their vital role in representing the student body, advocating for students’ interests regardless of their backgrounds, and actively contributing to the overall development of the AIU community.

The results of the election were announced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Datuk Ts. Final Year Students of BECE AIU Share Their Thoughts with UPSI Students

TANJONG MALIM, 16 January 2024 – 18 final-year students from the Bachelor in Early Childhood Education (BECE) exchanged their thoughts with students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in an engagement session organized by the School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS), Albukhary International University (AIU), in collaboration with the National Childhood Research and Development Centre (NCRDC), UPSI.

The Dean of the School of Education and Human Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Shahrom, highlighted that the program aims to expose students to the exemplary model of a research-based childcare center.

“Through this initiative, the final-year BECE students have the opportunity to exchange their learning activities, sharing their experiences in Social Business and 3Zero projects with students from UPSI,” he added.

This is also a platform where participants among students deliberate on ideas of creating sustainable business models or jobs through their future professions, such as opening childcare centers with minimum capital.

Meanwhile, the lecturers from AIU and industry experts from NCRDC have also engaged in a discussion to organize joint research activities, particularly in the childhood discipline.

This initiative serves as a testament to collaborative efforts in driving innovation and preparing participants, especially students, for their future successful careers in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Week of Welcome Helps New Students Adapt to University Life

ALOR SETAR, 8 January 2024 – Albukhary International University (AIU) enthusiastically welcomed its annual orientation week through a program, named the Week of Welcome (WoW) beginning on January 8, 2024. The program was attended by approximately 400 new students who commenced their learning journey in the First Semester, October 2023/2024 Intake.

This program provided the opportunity for the new students to get to know AIU better and learn about its uniqueness as a university that focuses on Social Business, as the only niche for the University.

Although the students have commenced their programs, they must know how to adapt to campus life during their studies at AIU, said Nidhoil Mohamed Ibrahim, the Director of the Student Affairs Department.

“We hope the new students will take this opportunity to understand their role and the diverse services provided to them and start to build a network of friends, peers, and colleagues they might need to support their learning journey,” he added.

On the first day, apart from sharing sessions from departments like the Student Affairs Department, International Student Unit, Registry Office, and Albukhary Centre of Excellence in Socio-Economic Development and Innovation, there were many other activities set to strengthen bonding among new students and their seniors.

Facilitating the event were 40 seniors handpicked from the Student Representative Council (SRC), Resident Council, and Peers.

Celebrating Success: AIU Students Honored for Runner-Up Achievement in TikTok Challenge

In a remarkable achievement, two talented Albukhary International University (AIU) students, Taqiyya Alka Haqiqy and Puan Nazhira Maharani, were announced as the runner-up in a video creative competition, or TikTok Challenge, held on International Anti-Corruption Day 2023 (IACD 2023). The award ceremony took place at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on December 9, 2023.

The competition, organized by the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (MAPCU) in collaboration with Asia Pacific University (APU), aimed at uniting the world against corruption. It welcomed participants from all over the globe, including international and Malaysian students studying at Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) in Malaysia.

The contest was held from November 1st to December 2nd, providing ample time for creative submissions addressing the theme of “Uniting the World Against Corruption.” The winners were announced during the award ceremony, with the first prize of RM 1000 awarded to Saito University College, the second prize of RM 750 going to Albukhary International University (AIU), and the third prize of RM 500 being secured by Asia Pacific University.

Taqiyya and Nazhira’s award-winning video, titled “Breaking the Chains of Corruption,” had managed to captivate the judges and audience with its powerful message and creative execution. The concise 59-second video conveyed the urgent need to address corruption and emphasized the collective responsibility to fight against it.

When asked about their motivation to join the contest, both Taqiyya and Nazhira expressed their deep concern for the detrimental impact of corruption and their determination to raise awareness as well as inspire change through their creative skills.

The public is welcome to watch their award-winning video and other competition entries on the TikTok app. These videos serve as a testament to the students’ dedication and their commitment to making a positive impact in the global fight against corruption.
